THE SMALL PRINT, MADE CLEAR

Your reading. Your privacy.

Last updated Oct 20, 2026. This policy describes the features currently provided by Read the Hidden.

Who we are

Read the Hidden is an independent fiction website at https://readthehidden.site. For privacy questions or requests, use the contact details on our contact page.

No account required

You do not need to register to read. This version of the website does not provide user accounts, comments, purchases, or a newsletter. We do not operate a server-side database of your reading history.

Information stored in your browser

We use local storage on your device to remember the theme you choose, your reading font and size, and your progress through stories. Reading history includes a story identifier, chapter number, paragraph position, completed chapters, and the time of your last update.

  • rth-theme: your light or dark preference.
  • rth-reader: your font and text-size preferences.
  • rth-progress-v1: your reading progress and completed chapters.

These values are not sent to a reading-history server by our application. They remain until you clear them or your browser removes them. They do not automatically sync between devices. Other people using the same browser profile may see your saved reading position.

This affects only the browser you are using now.

You can also clear all site data in your browser settings. That removes your theme and reader preferences too.

Search, hosting, and technical logs

Search runs against the published story catalog in your browser. Search words appear in the page URL, so they can remain in browser history and may appear in hosting logs. Avoid entering sensitive personal information into search.

Our hosting provider may process technical information such as IP addresses, browser information, requested URLs, and access times to deliver and protect the website. Retention and processing depend on the hosting provider. The site publisher will update this policy if additional analytics or services are introduced.

Email correspondence

If you contact us by email, your email provider and ours process the message. We receive the contact information and content you send and use it to respond, handle corrections, or address rights concerns. Please send only what is necessary. You may ask us to delete correspondence, subject to any need to retain it for legal or dispute-handling purposes.

Cookies, analytics, and advertising

The current site does not load advertising scripts or third-party analytics. The preferences described above use local storage rather than advertising cookies.

We may introduce Google AdSense or other advertising in the future. Before activating those services, we will update this policy to identify the services and their data practices and provide any required consent choices. No advertising consent is being collected by this version of the site.

Your choices and external links

You can read without saving a preference when browser storage is blocked, although progress may not persist. External websites have their own privacy practices. Contact us with privacy questions or to exercise rights available under the law applicable to you.

Changes to this policy

We will update the date above when this policy changes. Material changes to data collection should be reviewed before continuing to use the affected features.
