Questions, answered.
Everything you need to settle in and start reading.
Is everything free to read?
Yes. All published stories and chapters are free to read on the website. You do not need an account, subscription, or purchase.
Where should I start?
Choose a story from the library. Its overview introduces the story, lists the published chapters in order, and includes content notes. Start with chapter one or resume a saved chapter.
What does ‘ongoing’ mean?
An ongoing story is still being published. Only the chapters listed on its overview are available. A planned chapter count is not a promise that those chapters are already published.
How does Continue Reading work?
When you open a chapter, your current chapter and approximate paragraph position are saved in this browser. Use Continue Reading to return to that position. After you explicitly mark every chapter of a completed story as finished, it disappears from Continue Reading.
Will my progress follow me to another device?
No. Progress is stored in this browser’s local storage, not an account. Clearing site data or using private browsing may remove it. Different devices and browser profiles keep separate progress.
I have read all the available chapters. Why is the story still there?
If the story is ongoing, Continue Reading shows that you are caught up. When a new chapter is published, you can continue from it. You can also dismiss the saved story from the homepage.
Can I change the reading font and background?
Yes. Use the sun or moon button in the header for light or dark mode. Chapter pages include text-size buttons and a choice of book-style serif or clean sans-serif text. Preferences are saved on this browser when storage is available.
Are the stories AI-assisted?
Some are. AI-assisted fiction is identified on its story overview. Read the Hidden is responsible for selecting and publishing the material. Please send any inconsistencies or rights concerns through the contact page.
Can I publish my own story here?
This is currently a personally managed publication, not a self-service publishing platform. There is no public upload or author account system.
Can I copy a story to my own website?
Please contact the publisher about permission. Free reading access does not automatically permit reproduction of protected content. You can share a link to a story.
Why is the actual reading time different?
Times are calculated at roughly 225 words per minute and rounded up for each chapter. They are estimates; your reading pace, screen size, and breaks will change the total.
